Principal Thomas Pittman

Parents and Guardians,

Fleming Island is the home of the Golden Eagles and we have approximately 2,200 students in 2017-2018 school year.  We have a faculty that is caring and want to see our students succeed both in the classroom academically as well as outside the classroom.  One of the things we pride ourselves on here are the accomplishments of our students in the classroom along with their extracurricular activities.  Our mission statement here at the school is “Preparing Tomorrow’s Leaders, Today”.

Our expectation at Fleming Island is for our students to act like young adults and treat others the way you would like to be treated.  We want them to be present and on time to school every day.  We expect them to be respectful, courteous, and helpful.  A good life lesson for everyone is to try and make every day better than the previous one.  This can be accomplished by doing unexpectedly something nice and kind for someone and having pride in yourself and your school.

I have been working in the Clay County School District since 1993.  I was a classroom teacher for 8 years before moving into a leadership role.  I moved into a leadership role in 2001 as an assistant principal at Orange Park High School.  In 2003, I helped opened Fleming Island High School and was part of the school until 2010.  In 2010, I had the opportunity to help open Oakleaf High School serving as an assistant principal until 2012.  In the spring of 2012, I returned to Fleming Island High School as the vice principal and then became the principal in June of 2012.

Proud to be a Golden Eagle!

Sincerely,

Thomas E. Pittman
