    September 5, 2019 at 10:45 a.m.

    Dear Clay County Families,

District teams and school-based leaders have conducted assessments of all district facilities and schools today. I am happy to report that there are no structural damages, power outages or flooding that will impede our opening. Based on the positive reports and minimal impact to our county, Clay County District Schools will reopen on Friday, September 6th. I am thankful for all the first responders, county leadership and staff, and state leaders who worked around the clock to keep everyone safe! Please know that I do not take for granted the amazing leadership in this county and the ability for all to work together as a team in order to make sound decisions for the wellbeing of the entire community.

Thank you for your continued flexibility and I look forward to seeing all students and staff tomorrow!

    Respectfully,

    Addison Davis, Superintendent

  • Weather Update #4: CLAY COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOLS CLOSED THURSDAY

    September 3, 2019 at 12:15 P.M.

    Dear Clay County Families,

As Hurricane Dorian slowly moves up the east coast, we are continuing to monitor its track and potential aftermath along with Clay County Emergency Management and state partners. The National Weather Service estimates that Clay County will receive impacts into Wednesday evening. Due to this projected timeframe, district teams will not be able to conduct post-assessments until Thursday morning; therefore, Clay County District Schools will extend closure to Thursday, September 5th.

To ensure that our facilities and structures are prepared for Dorian’s impact, District team members have been working over the last eight days, and I am thankful for their focus and continued efforts. Based on the expected timeline of Dorian, rapid response and district recovery teams will be able to access our facilities on Thursday, which will allow us to determine the potential damages to our schools. During this time, staff will assess overall impact, potential power outages, remove debris, clear roadways, and make certain that all schools and district offices are up and running safely for a projected opening on Friday.

Again, please know that school closures are a day-to-day determination and all post-assessments will provide information on how quickly the District can return to normalcy. As always, I will alert all stakeholders as soon as an informed decision is made.

I encourage all community members to visit Alert.ClayCountyGov.com to sign up for weather alerts and to stay updated on the latest developments. Please continue to follow our district website, www.oneclay.net, and social media platforms to obtain relevant information related to school closures and reopening.

Thank you for your continued flexibility through this process and stay safe.

    Respectfully,

    Addison Davis, Superintendent
    Clay County District Schools (CCDS)

  • Weather Update #3: CLAY COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOLS CLOSED TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY

    September 1, 2019 at 12:15 P.M.

    Dear Clay County Families,

District leadership is continuing to monitor Hurricane Dorian around the clock alongside our partners at Clay County Emergency Management, the National Weather Service, and local meteorologists. Hurricane Dorian remains a slow-moving and dangerous hurricane with heavy rainfall expected to last through this week causing major flooding, especially in the Black Creek basin. Based on current projections and the potential aftermath of Dorian, Clay County District Schools will be closed on Tuesday, September 3rd and Wednesday, September 4th. Please know that this decision is not taken lightly and there are many factors that are taken into consideration when closing schools and offices. I am sensitive to the fact that families are preparing for the storm and I will always make decisions in the best interest and safety of all involved in this process. In addition, I will be working with the Emergency Management Center to identify potential shelters for community members, if needed.

Currently, our operations team and school leadership teams are working diligently to prepare all district structures for Dorian’s impact. Additionally, our Recovery Teams will conduct post assessments immediately after the storm with the goal to return to normalcy as soon as possible. This will help in determining the overall impact of Hurricane Dorian and if additional school closures will be needed. Please know this is a day-to-day determination and I will alert all constituents as soon as decisions are made.

Don’t forget to visit Alert.ClayCountyGov.com to sign up for weather alerts and to stay updated on the latest developments. Please continue to follow our district website, www.oneclay.net, and social media platforms to obtain relevant information related to school closures and reopening.

Regardless of the storm’s impact, and what may potentially happen, we must prepare for the worst to ensure the safety of our families. Please remain safe and our thoughts and prayers are with the community and the state of Florida.

    Respectfully,

    Addison Davis, Superintendent

    Clay County District Schools (CCDS)

    Dear Clay County Families,

Please be advised that Clay County District Schools is closely monitoring Hurricane Dorian with our partners at Clay County Emergency Management, the National Weather Service, and local meteorologists. The district will be in constant communication with all stakeholders regarding the impact to our school district and will send updated information to all parents/guardians using multiple resources such as phone, district website, and social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram). All relevant information regarding school closure will be included in an effort to keep all constituents apprised of our decisions. I am encouraging all parents/guardians to please make certain that your child’s school has the correct contact number listed in Focus in order to receive district updates.

As of now, we are moving forward with all Friday night athletic and extracurricular activities as scheduled; however, all Saturday, Sunday, and Monday events will be cancelled. In the event of school closures, we will notify all constituents no later than Monday, September 2nd. If Hurricane Dorian causes power outages for certain areas within the county, we will utilize local media outlets and radio stations to help relay all pertinent information. Many factors will be considered when determining school closures. District staff and I will review and assess all damages at every campus, loss of electricity, unsafe travel conditions due to debris or flooding, and the overall impact of the storm. Post assessments will be conducted immediately after the storm and we will work alongside Clay County Emergency Management to identify potential shelters, which will be announced if needed.

We encourage all our families to visit Alert.ClayCountyGov.com to make a plan, get a kit, and stay informed! Additionally, you can sign up for weather alerts through Alert Clay. Please take this time to prepare accordingly and stay tuned for updates.

Stay safe Clay County and my thoughts and prayers are with our community.

    Sincerely,

Addison Davis, Superintendent, Clay County District Schools (CCDS)
